What the traveler page actually lists
In the schedule-change section of Avelo's flight-disruptions page, a heading refers to a time difference of more than three hours or a different calendar date. The paragraph below addresses a canceled flight or a departure time changed by more than three hours. For that described situation, Avelo says it can provide one of three choices. This is the airline's published option menu, not an assessment of any passenger's eligibility.
The three listed choices
Original-payment refund
Cancel the impacted flight reservation and receive the purchase amount back through the original payment method under the page's stated scenario.
Avelo Cash
Cancel the impacted reservation and choose future-travel credit for the fare, with an extra Avelo Cash incentive. A credit is a different choice from a payment-method refund.
Another Avelo date
Move to a flight within seven days before or after the original departure date, keeping the same origin and destination and waiving a fare difference. The seven days are a replacement-flight window.
Two details the help page does not settle
- The option paragraph uses more than three hours for a changed departure. A separate accordion says changes of less than three hours receive no special accommodation. These sentences leave the option menu at exactly three hours unstated.
- The heading includes a different calendar date, but the option paragraph gives no separate rule for a smaller change that crosses midnight. We cannot infer how that case is handled from this paragraph alone.
The reviewed help section also does not state a general alternate-airport, connection, cabin or booking-channel remedy. The page's later compensation sections concern delays and cancellations and should not be applied wholesale to an advance schedule edit.
Contract and U.S. refund rule have separate roles
Avelo's Contract of Carriage, effective January 21, 2026, says in its introduction that it governs a conflict with website information, subject to applicable law. Section 12(A)(i) refers to 14 CFR § 260.6 for a covered cancellation or significant delay or change when the traveler declines the changed segment and alternatives. The contract separately defines validity periods for Avelo Cash, including a three-hours-or-greater domestic category; that validity definition does not fill the help page's exact-three-hour option gap. Avelo's Customer Service Commitment §10 promises a revised itinerary or original-payment refund when a new departure or arrival time differs significantly, without specifying a number in that sentence.
The U.S. DOT refund guidance and 14 CFR § 260.2 state a separate, direction-specific significant-change test for covered U.S. itineraries, along with non-time cases. The airline's optional rebooking window and credit offer do not replace that regulatory refund analysis. Booking, merchant of record, original and replacement itineraries, and the traveler's response still matter.
How this was checked
We opened the live Avelo help page, expanded both schedule-change accordions, and read the current contract and customer service commitment on October 4, 2026. We did not find a dated prior version of the help-page clause, so this note makes no claim that Avelo recently changed its policy. We have not asked Avelo to clarify the boundary and do not know how it would apply these options to a particular booking. This note is educational information, not legal advice or a guaranteed refund determination.
The three selected choices are separately coded in our downloadable option map. The policy index carries the source scope and caveats; our methodology explains selection and corrections.
